My creative process starts with a fairly clear inspiration of how to metaphorically and aesthetically depict a theme that is important to me. These inspirations almost always come to me when I am relaxed and in a meditative frame of mind. I document each theme as an artist’s concept statement, make preliminary sketches, produce a model, and then develop the best method to construct the sculpture. Polished wood sculptures are carved directly from large blocks using both power and hand carving tools. Bronze sculptures, which are cast using the lost wax process, start as full size maquettes that I sculpt of composite materials.
